Start: Bus 4,7,37,40,43,91,970etc. get off at Pok Fu Lam Reservoir

End: Same as above, or MTR from Hong Kong University Station

Climbing up High West by the side path would require to clamber slightly!

1. If you do not climb up High West, take Harlech Road to Hatton Road.
2. At the pavilion of Harlech Road, you could take Harlech Road or Lugard Road to The Peak.

Po Fu Lam Reservoir Road

The trail starts by following Po Fu Lam Reservoir Road. Passing through Pofulam Public Riding School, it ascends slowly. Further up, the reservoir view could be seen on the right. At the entry of Po Fu Lam Country Park, take the flight of steps up on the left. After passing the grassland, it leads up to join Hong Kong Trail.

Lun Fu Shan Viewing Point

Head the Hong Kong Trail to the left, it winds along the hillside with gentle ascent and cuts through the thick woods. Along the way, it gives the distance view over Lamma Island and the coast of Po Fu Lam. Heading to the junction, according to the signpost to The Peak, take the right fork to start the flight of stone steps uphill. Along the steps up, you could look up to the cliffy escarpment of High West. Not far ahead, it soon comes to the lookout of Lung Fu Shan. There is not at Lung Fu Shan, just at the hillside of High West but it lies in within Lung Fu Shan Country Park. The lookout was reformed from a military pillbox. From there, the western coast of Hong Kong Island is fully within the sight where is good for enjoying and shooting the sunset.

High West

There is an obscure uphill path at the left of the brick wall behind the Camellia Garden at right side of the map board. It begins to climb up a very steep slope at first that requires to clamber. Beyond the warning notice, the slope turns gentle. Up ahead along the thick wooded path, you could look back far over Mount Davis. Passing a rocky cliff and further going up, it leads to the hilltop of High West. At the top of the western Hong Kong Island, as beautiful as at The Peak, it offers a panoramic view over the west coast of Victoria Harbour and western Kowloon. Overlooking another side, southward to Po Fu Lam Reservoir and farther Lamma Island, and westward to Lantau Island are all within the sight. Moreover, it is unforgettable the sunset dye the western sea orange.

Note: The uphill path from Lun Fu Shan Viewing Point to High West require to clamber in part of the section.

Branch: You could follow Harlech Road from Lun Fu Shan Viewing Point to the rest area with a pavilion opposite the junction of Hatton Road. Head the path on the right end of the rest area, then join the uphill steps to High West and retrace your way downhill. If not to climb the hill, you could directly head Hatton Road at the junction.

Hatton Road to Pinewood Battery

From the hilltop head the trail downhill, it leads down to a flatland then follows the left path to the pavilion of the rest area at Harlech Road. Head Hatton Road beside the public toilet, it is downward slowly. Along the road not far ahead, take the left steps down at the junction. Through the pavilion and the barbecue site, it comes to Pinewood Battery. Follow the path ahead (or go around first), the military remnants could be seen. Heading to a remnants of deserted broken battery in a large circle base, take a flight of steps down on the left. During the downhill, Lun Fu Shan and the western harbour could be overlooked.

After descend to the junction at Hatton Road, turn left at the map board and then soon turn right to go. Along the concrete path, afterward it follows the steps. Leading down to a smooth path, take the flight of steps on the left. At the junction, take the left path down to Pokfield Road.

    Branch:
  1. From the rest area at Harlech Road, you could go to The Peak Tower via Harlech Road or Lugard Road. (the both ways are accessable to there)
  2. Passing Pinewood Battery and going down to Hatton Road, you could follow it down to Kotewall Road and take minibus 13 going to Central.

Summary

Along the sylvan trail from Po Fu Lam Reservoir, it is enjoyable for the peaceful country setting with the lush trees fashioning a jade screen. In addition, at the hilltop of High West, it is unforgettable for the charming scenery over the western golden sea in the sunset.
